Couscous

from CA$6.49

Technically, couscous doesn’t belong to the grains family but to the pasta family. It looks like a grain and cooks in five minutes. All you have to do is add boiling water (2/3 cup to 1 cup water) and let it sit for 5 minutes. Fluff it with a fork, season with salt and pepper and add your choice of olive oil, butter, herbs, cooked chopped vegetables or chopped onions, and green onions. Couscous is part of the Moroccan diet and is used in tanginess, salads and side dishes.

Whole grains are best stored in an airtight container in a cool place. They can be stored up to a year in the freezer or 6 months in the pantry. Whole grain flour is best stored in the freezer. If the grains or flour have a rancid smell, it’s best to buy a fresh batch.
